The publication of State Compensation Insurance Fund's much anticipated internal review has been delayed due to an on-going investigation of the provider by the California Highway Patrol.
Originally expected to be available for public view at the end of June, the report is still in draft form, according to State Fund spokeswoman Julie Jenkinson, and will not be unveiled until the California Highway Patrol, State Fund and the Department of Insurance determine that the document's release will not interfere with the CHP's separate investigation.
As a state entity, SCIF is within the CHP's investigative jurisdiction. According to those familiar with the process, as State Fund's external counsel and external forensic accountants were reviewing safety groups within the organization, questionable practices and/or documents emerged that warranted law enforcement review.
The CHP was unable to comment on the status of their investigation or when it will be finished. It is possible that the internal review report will not be released until the CHP has concluded its analysis, however, it has not been determined that withholding the report until the investigation's conclusion is mandatory.
Workers' Comp Executive will provide updates on this matter as information warrants.
