Stanley Zax

Title: Chairman, President and CEO, Zenith National Insurance Corp.
Resume: Zax has held his current position with Zenith for more than 30 years. He began his career in 1961 as an associate and then as a partner in a Chicago law firm. He has also served as vice president, secretary and general counsel for Hilton Hotels. From 1973-1976, Zax served as president and CEO of Great American Insurance Company. From 2002-2007, Zax was a director of compensation Wynn Resorts.
Boards and Commissions: Zax served on the executive committee and board of The Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) from 1976-1999 and served on the California Little Hoover Commission from 1994-2007. Currently, Zax is a director of the Prostate Cancer Foundation; trustee of Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C.; and trustee for the Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress.

An attorney by training, Zax has been chairman of California's seventh-largest workers' comp carrier since 1977 and CEO and president since the following year. The chairman of the board in the insurance industry, Zax is a man of few words but is brutally honest. Zax is never afraid to comment on the insurance industry. He’s shared his thoughts on workers’ comp costs, the role of State Compensation Insurance Fund, rates, and the Workers’ Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau. In addition to his duties at Zenith, Zax is also a past president of CalFarm Insurance Company.
