Ohio BWC to increase safety grants to $70M

The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation says it will increase funding for the agency’s Safety Grants program for employers by $30 million over 2020 and 2021, bringing total grant funding to $70 million. The grants, up to $40,000 per employer, provide private and public State Insurance Fund employers funding for training, wellness programs, and equipment intended to reduce risk of workplace injuries and illnesses. West Virginia doctor sentenced for illegal distribution

Following a multi-agency investigation that included the West Virginia Offices of the Insurance Commissioner Fraud Division and the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, among others, a 61-year-old Wheeling, West Virginia doctor has been sentenced to six months in prison for illegally distributing controlled substances. Montana task force looks into payroll fraud in construction industry

Montana’s Task Force on Integrity in Wage Reporting and Employee Classification recently announced recommendations on how to crack down on payroll fraud in the construction industry. Will other states follow New Jersey’s drug disposal law?

A new New Jersey law requires pharmacies to provide drug disposal options and to educate their customers on how to safely dispose of unused, unwanted, or expired medications. Among other provisions, the law says pharmacies must provide patients with written informational materials advising that when unused, unwanted, or expired drugs and medications are not properly, safely, and promptly disposed of there is a risk that the drug or medication can be stolen, diverted, abused, misused, or accidentally ingested.
