Illinois judge says won’t let opioid defendants use slow federal process

The Illinois Public Risk Fund, a workers’ compensation insurance pooling service for local Illinois governments, has won the chance to sidestep federal court as it pursues its own legal claims against the makers and distributors of opioid painkillers. Most such lawsuits have been removed to federal court by the opioid defendants from the local courts in which most were filed, and have been merged into a mass action of similar cases.
