Iowa: Tyson workers could get protections under proposals

Legislation being drafted in Iowa would give protection to whistleblowers, establish more collective bargaining rights, and implement premium pay, sick leave and medical leave at the Tyson plant in Waterloo and elsewhere, lawmakers announced this week. Employees who contract COVID-19 are limited in lawsuits they can file against Tyson; legislation passed last year prevents meatpacking companies and other businesses from most liability they could otherwise face from sick employees.
