Nebraska bill focuses on mental health awareness, treatment for PTSD in first responders

The Nebraska Legislature’s Business and Labor Committee this week considered a bill intended to help firefighters and first responders who are experiencing mental health issues. The bill would expand the workers’ compensation available to benefit those seeking mental health issues related to work as well as provide resiliency training. The state senator who introduced the bill reportedly personally experienced PTSD himself. NTV

A former military contractor, who worked for a private contractor on Mosul Air Force Base in Iraq and returned home with post-traumatic stress disorder and lung-related health issues and originally was denied disability benefits when a judge ruled she was medically capable of returning to a warzone and work, has been awarded compensation for health effects she suffered after working near open-air burn pits in Iraq.
