Montana Senate committee hears financial concerns on Firefighter Protection Act
Montana lawmakers this week heard from supporters of a bill that would shift the burden of proof for illnesses that could be caused by fighting fire, such as lung disease, cancer and post-traumatic stress disorder from patient to insurer. Two other bills moving through the session would require and pay for workers’ comp for volunteer firefighters; however, the legislation to pay for the coverage appears to be dead.
