Brother of restaurant worker lit on fire says workers’ comp will not cover her injuries
A 56-year-old Golden Corral worker who police say was intentionally lit on fire by her boyfriend inside the restaurant is still unresponsive and 62 percent of her body is burned, according to her brother. “Initially, we were confident that the situation would be taken care of by, at least, workers’ comp insurance. Study: Ohio workers’ comp rates improve
Ohio continues to ascend the rankings of a biennial study that compares national workers’ compensation rates. The state’s rates improved from 33rd in 2014 to 40th, making Ohio the 11th lowest among all states. New York: Rochester woman charged with more than $34K in workers’ comp fraud
A 44-year-old woman has been arrested for defrauding the New York workers’ compensation system, according to the state’s inspector general. The Rochester resident initially began receiving workers’ compensation in 2002 after she suffered knee and leg injuries after she slipped and fell off a curb in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant where she worked. New Jersey: Paterson pays out $1.75M in workers’ compensation
The city of Paterson, New Jersey settled 34 separate workers compensation cases last Tuesday, paying out $1,758,557, according to city officials. Three largest cases in the batch involved firefighters and police officers. The largest claim approved went to a firefighter who received $154,800 for allegedly injuring his left hand, left elbow, and neck while pulling a hose at a fire scene in 2009, according to city records.
