Several New York cities to pay more with revised workers’ comp

Officials in Jamestown, Dunkirk and Westfield, New York are looking for more money in their budgets to pay for a change in how Chautauqua County bills workers’ compensation. Currently, 40% of the workers’ comp plan costs are based on property valuation; a new law amends that to be based on wages of employees. Observer Today

 

WorkSafeBC reports more than 7,000 young employees were injured last year

In 2021, WorkSafeBC accepted 7,125 claims related to injuries from young employees; in the last five years, 16 have died in workplace incidents. The agency is reminding employers they have a legal responsibility under the province’s Workers’ Compensation Act to ensure young and new employees receive appropriate training and supervision. Most major pro sports teams not filing injury and illness reports

Around 80% of professional sports franchises do not report injury or illness records, Fed-OSHA records show. From 2018 through 2021, 18 of 30 major league baseball teams, nine of 32 NFL teams and seven of 32 NHL teams reported injury data. WTAE
