Hemp farmer sentenced for failure to pay employees, taxes

A Half Moon Bay, California man charged with theft of labor, tax evasion and failure to maintain workers’ compensation insurance for farm employees was sentenced to 364 days in jail, the San Mateo District Attorney’s Office announced this week. The hemp farmer pleaded no contest to failing to transmit taxes withheld from his employees’ wages and failing to maintain workers’ compensation insurance. KPIX

 

Employees on NFL team’s site claim over $100K in wage theft

Construction employees on a multi-use development that includes the Minnesota Vikings new headquarters and training facility claim they are owed more than $100,000 in wages. Nearly a quarter of the 30,000 construction employees in Minnesota are misclassified or paid off the books, according to an estimate by the Midwest Economic Policy Institute.
