Slaughterhouse owner sentenced for hiring illegal workers

The owner of a Tennessee slaughterhouse and meatpacking plant that was raided by federal tax and immigration officials last year, was sentenced to 18 months in prison Wednesday. He has agreed to pay $1.3 million in restitution to the IRS and more than $127,000 to his former workers’ compensation carrier for grossly understating the number of employees who were eligible for claims. Father of airman files suit over deadly crash

The father of a U.S. airman who died last year in a multi-vehicle crash on an Idaho interstate has filed suit against various government agencies, such as the Idaho Transportation Department, and private companies, including one that contracted the semitrailer involved in the crash to haul a shipment of apples from Washington to Massachusetts.
