West Virginia among lowest in nation for workers’ comp premiums
According to the Oregon Workers’ Compensation Premium Rate Ranking, West Virginia is among states with the lowest insurance premiums for workers’ compensation, with the fourth lowest median insurance rate in the nation. State Insurance Commissioner Allan McVey attributed the progress to the move to privatize workers’ compensation insurance. Prior to privatization, there was only one provider for the insurance for the state. Now, according to the state’s governor, there are 275 carriers that offer the insurance to employers. WVNews
Pennsylvania regulators approve workers’ comp reductions; insurers urged to reimburse
The Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner announced late last week that two mid-year workers’ compensation filings, that will result in a 14.74 percent reduction in overall loss costs, have been approved and will take effect January 1. One of the filings is an attempt to redress a data error the Pennsylvania Compensation Rating Bureau discovered in a filing that became effective last April. Lehigh Valley Business
Ohioan charged with workers’ comp fraud
The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation last week announced that a Grafton, Ohio business owner must pay back nearly $34,000 in restitution after the agency found him plowing snow, mowing lawns and landscaping for a business he owned while collecting disability benefits.
