Fremont Compensation Insurance Co. in January asked the Florida Insurance Guarantee Association to allow the troubled insurer to forgo paying a $20,000 assessment, the Executive has learned.The assessment is built into rates, but Fremont asked that it be absolved of the assessment because of its financial situation and because its under the regulatory supervision of the California Department of Insurance.
