True to his word, Sen. Don Perata (D-Oakland) is pushing legislation that doubles the weekly permanent partial disability benefit to injured workers by 2009. And it could be more, if the applicants' bar succeeds in invalidating the current Permanent Disability Rating Schedule (PDRS) in the courts. Newly minted amendments to SB 815 boost by a third the number of weeks during which injured workers receive benefits each year starting in 2007. This substantial increase is certain to garner a veto from the governor.
